Turner approached media executive Reese Schonfeld in 1978 about establishing a 24-hour news channel. They agreed that if they used an all-electronic newsroom and satellites for all transmissions, they could do it with a staff of 300. Turner sold WRET the following year to fund the transaction and relocated its headquarters to Atlanta. Schonfeld was named president and CEO of the Cable News Network, now known as CNN. Turner took over as CEO of CNN in 1982.
