Snapchat is a popular social media app that has seen huge growth in recent years, especially among the millennial generation. However, just because there are millions of new features on Snapchat doesn’t mean you have to update your app.
Don’t worry, Fidlar will show you how to add music to Snapchat story and video. It is surprisingly easy to upload your favorite music to your snaps, thanks to some helpful tips below.
What is the Sound Feature?
Before we get into how to add your own music on Snapchat videos, let’s first learn about the “Sounds” feature of the app. You may be familiar with the music feature on Instagram and TikTok if you’ve used them.
In 2020, the Snapchat app also added a Sound feature to add music and sound effects to our photos or videos. You can use Snapchat to integrate with streaming services like Spotify, Pandora, or Apple Music.
Although it doesn’t contain all the tracks, it does include the most popular songs. This allows you to add your own music and make Snapchat videos more interesting easily.
After the other person has viewed your snap, they will be able to hear the music playing in the background. You can tap the sticker to let them know more about the song or listen to it.
How to add your own music to a Snapchat story?
You’ll notice a music note icon in the list of options on the right side of your screen
Step 1: Tap the music icon (music sticker) button at the right of your screen.
Step 2: A few columns will be used to populate a menu. The first “Featured” listing contains a selection of popular songs.
The second column, “Mood,” contains a similar selection. It was chosen to reflect different dispositions. In a moment, we’ll discuss the third column.
Step 3: To preview a sound, tap the play icon. Next, tap a song to save it to your snap. Select the section of the song that you want to highlight. Drag the sound wave left and right to grab the desired snippet.
The maximum length for photos is 10 seconds. This depends on how long your snap was. The length of the Snapchat video is the same as the duration. A sound graphic sticker will now appear. It will reveal the track and artist’s name. You can adjust the sticker to suit your preferences.
If you want to remove the track, drag the sticker to your screen’s bottom where a trash icon will be displayed.
Snapchat does not have a search function, and Snapchat’s music library is only available licensed music through a few licensing partners.
At this point, you can now add more elements to finish your snap. Next, click the “Send to” button at the bottom-right corner of your photo to send it to your friends or to set it up as your story.
Step 4: You can create and save your own audio clips by clicking the “My Sounds” column in the last column. Tap the “+” icon to create your own sounds.
In the event you’d prefer to add your own sound clip to a Snap, you can record on the app and incorporate it. Once you are ready, click the microphone symbol to start recording. Click again to stop it. You can also hold down to begin recording and then release to stop. You can only record a maximum 60 second sound.
- It is not possible to record music. Snapchat can detect music in recordings and pop up to block the recording due to possible copyright liability.
- To stop recording, tap the Record button when you are satisfied with the sound.
You can see the preview of your sound, and you can name it in the sound name area.
- Tap the “Make this sound public?” button. To make your sound clip more accessible, you can tap the Make this sound public? button. You can also slide the caps at both the beginning and ending of the Sound Timeline.
- After you’re satisfied with the music in your stories or snaps, click on the blue Save Sound button.
- Select the Saved sound and add it to your Snapchat Story. You can also preview it. You can also drag the Sound Timeline to the bottom of your screen and select the section you wish to include. Finally, click the checkmark icon to confirm.
- You can continue editing and adding features, as usual, then click the blue arrow button.
Adding music to a picture on Snapchat

Step 1: Launch Spotify on your smartphone and choose the song you want to listen to.
Step 2: Tap the three vertical lines in the upper right-hand corner.
